DIRECTIONS
Montessori education (often remembered only for the manipulative materials used by the children in a Montessori school) is based on the natural development of children, and designed to support their changing needs through their journey to adulthood. The pedagogy straddles science and philosophy. The role of the teacher is to create an environment in which the children can make choices and follow their interests. These ideas are centred in the freedom of the individual. Children who are nurtured in a Montessori environment become independent in thought and action and eventually become capable of creating harmonious society. In this workshop we will offer an overview of key Montessori principles and how they support child development from birth to maturity.
