In a Montessori environment following interest is the key for the adult to support the children in their journey towards self-construction. Yet as teachers we see the children in our environments disengage from work. Some of them choose work but do not seem to be interested in finishing what they have begun. Montessori believed that children’s interest was the centre of education. How can we awaken the interest of the child? How can we ensure that children persevere and practice with the work they have chosen? This workshop will focus on the Montessori’s idea of auto education, and all the practical aspects of what sustains and renews a child’s interest in activity.
